Thank you for visiting Empowerment from Within! My name is Corynne Hilbert, and I am a licensed clinical social worker and somatic practitioner with a passion for nature-based therapy, spiritual practices, and expressive arts. Combining art, spirituality and nature results in a unique and empowering counseling experience for clients of all ages. People are free to discover and share their life experiences in a safe and honoring environment. Sharing one's pain and experiences can be hard, and I strive to be a compassionate, warm and understanding listener. Each person's life story is sacred, and there are a myriad of gifts waiting to be discovered and embraced in the story.

Our goal in therapy is for each session to be all about you. Together, we will focus on your goals for treatment. Asking for help can be difficult, and I use a grounded, nonjudgmental approach, I completely believe that in therapy, you are the healer and that you have the inner resources to heal. My job is to help lead you to that inner place where you can access the healer inside. You deserve to do more than just survive—you deserve to thrive and experience peace and joy in life!

I have an extensive history working with children, adolescents and families facing barriers to emotional progress and growth, and have worked with adults of all ages. In addition, I have diversified experiences working in residential treatment, homeless shelters and community mental health systems.  My client-centered approach uses a strengths perspective, which means that counseling sessions focus on clients and working with their strengths. This approach is based on systems, empowerment and transpersonal theories. Systems theory means that I believe there are many people, circumstances and environmental factors that affect each individual. Empowerment theory guides me in helping each person find their personal power within. Transpersonal theory integrates the spiritual aspect of the person into treatment. I use a number of therapeutic activities including ecotherapy, animal-assisted therapy, play therapy, expressive arts and shamanic practices.

I have taught parenting skills to both intact and foster families, and I am a certified instructor for the Second Step Youth Violence Prevention program. Other trainings include Understanding and Responding to the Sexual Behavior of Children, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training, and attachment and bonding. I am also trained in the Search Institute’s Asset Building model, which is a framework for developing and strengthening assets in youth and children for future success.

As a trained Naturalist, I employ nature and the outside environment at both the Fort Collins and Loveland offices. The Loveland office is situated at Wilder-Nest Retreats located on 100 acres set against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. In addition to psychotherapy, I offer individual-based and group retreats and rites of passage.

I have extensive training in working somatically and energetically with trauma. I use a variety of interventions and techniques to help sequence trauma that is stuck in the body as well as helping to re-establish a sense of safety and regulation in the body and nervous system.

I am also a trained shamanic practitioner. Shamanic services include journeying instruction, power retrieval, extraction work, cancer work, and other clearings. I also have experience with plant medicine and ancestral healing.

"Corynne has a calm and empathetic presence. Her care for others is obvious as she goes above and beyond to be helpful and create connection. Her dedication to her own personal and professional growth is inspiring as I see her modeling in her life the helpful tools and perspectives she offers to her clients. I would highly recommend her therapeutic services." --Jackie V.
